Jews You Should Know

Jan 8, 2018

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg was a young father when he received the call every parent dreads. His toddler daughter passed away a short time later. Years later, he found a profound way to channel his grief by directing Camp Simcha, a camp for children with cancer. In that role, he discovered that the marriage between martial arts and ailing children could be a transformational one, thus beginning the Kids Kicking Cancer revolution.

Today deployed in dozens of locations around the world, the program - instructing people to "breathe in the light and breathe out the darkness" - has also been applied to military veterans suffering from PTSD, obese children and those with various other maladies.

And in a unique but critical twist, the children come to see themselves as teachers and heroes, lighting up with the world as they practice the program principles and impart them to others.

"Rabbi G" has poured his life into this fascinating mission, which continues to grow in many directions. Learn more at www.kidskickingcancer.org.
